Karen Carney is the second-most capped England player, making 144 appearances, including the European Championships and World Cup. Carney emerged at Birmingham City, being named FA Young Player of the Year twice.
In 2005, she signed with Arsenal and experienced great success in 2006–07 – winning the UEFA Women’s Cup and all three domestic trophies. Following two seasons in US Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) with Chicago Red Stars, Carney re-joined Birmingham ahead of the 2011 Football Association Women’s Super League (FA WSL). Carney was given the MBE in 2017 for her services to football and is considered a trailblazer who has paved the way for women’s football to go mainstream.
